A Travel Guide by Caiman Eco-Lodge
Venturing into the Cuyabeno Wildlife Reserve is the beginning of an unforgettable Amazon experience. But first—how do you get there? At Caiman Eco-Lodge, we want your journey to be as smooth as your stay. Here’s everything you need to know about getting to the lodge, whether you choose public transport or our private shuttle service.
🚌 Public Transport: Budget-Friendly Adventure
For travelers watching their expenses or seeking a more local vibe, public buses are available daily between Quito and Lago Agrio, the gateway to Cuyabeno.
How It Works:
- Buses depart from Quitumbe Bus Terminal in southern Quito.
- The trip takes approximately 8–10 hours, usually overnight.
- Ticket prices range from $10–$15 USD.
- Once in Lago Agrio, you’ll need to arrange additional transport to reach the Cuyabeno Bridge, where the lodge tour begins.
✅ Pros:
- Cost-effective for those on a budget.
- Multiple departure times throughout the day and night.
- Opportunity to travel like a local.
❌ Cons:
- Comfort may be limited, especially on longer overnight trips.
- Delays and missed connections can cause stress, especially if you’re trying to meet our lodge transport schedule.
- Communication is often Spanish-only, which can be tricky for non-Spanish speakers.
- You’ll have to coordinate your own transfer from Lago Agrio to the starting point.
🚐 Private Shuttle: Stress-Free and Comfortable
To simplify the process, Caiman Eco-Lodge offers a direct shuttle service between Quito and Cuyabeno.
Shuttle Service Details:
- Departs Quito at 23:00 the night before your tour.
- Arrives at the Cuyabeno Bridge around 9:00 AM—perfectly timed for lodge pickup.
- Return shuttle arrives back in Quito around 22:00 on the last day of the tour.
- Cost: $30 USD one way / $60 USD round trip per person.
✅ Pros:
- Reliable and on time, coordinated with your lodge booking.
- More comfortable than public buses—ideal for resting before your Amazon adventure.
- No language barrier—we assist with coordination in English or Spanish.
- Eliminates the need for extra transfers or complicated connections.
❌ Cons:
- Slightly higher cost, but well worth it for peace of mind and convenience.
🚩 Recommendation: Book Early, Travel Easy
Because power outages are common in the region and may cause delays in communication, we highly recommend booking your shuttle in advance. This ensures:
- You don’t miss your lodge pickup.
- We can coordinate everything seamlessly.
- You get a worry-free start and finish to your Amazon journey.
Your Adventure Starts with the Right Ride
Whether you choose public transport for the thrill or a private shuttle for the ease, getting to Caiman Eco-Lodge is the first step into the wild beauty of the Amazon. We’re here to make that step simple, safe, and comfortable.
